Seattle identity verification startup Vouched closed a $17 million Series A led by Spring Rock Ventures, bringing total funding to $22 million. The company traditionally analyzes photo IDs and selfies to detect fraud in real-time, serving healthcare, fintech, and automotive customers with over $10 million in annual recurring revenue.

CEO Peter Horadan says investor interest centers on two developments: mobile driver's licenses now available in 15 states and the emerging need to verify AI agents. Mobile licenses use cryptographic material released only through biometric authentication, creating verification that can't be spoofed—what Horadan calls foolproof digital identity.

The AI agent angle addresses a different problem: as personal digital assistants handle banking, reservations, and work system access, users must share usernames and passwords, creating security risks. Vouched launched KnowThat.ai and its "Know Your Agent" platform to provide continuous monitoring of agent behavior and detect potentially malicious activity.

Identity verification is expanding beyond traditional KYC compliance into AI governance territory. Legal and product teams now need frameworks for evaluating which agents can access sensitive information and how to monitor their behavior over time.
