Vector Legal's seed round makes accountability the product

A YC-backed law firm raised $5.19 million on a premise legal tech has spent a decade avoiding: owning the answer.

Vector Legal, founded by former YC legal counsel Mitch Duncombe and ex-Ironclad engineer Keenan Venuti, closed a seed round led by Base 10 Partners. The product looks familiar. Software that helps founders form entities, file trademarks, draft and review documents. The structure underneath it doesn't. Vector is the law firm of record. It carries malpractice insurance. When the advice is wrong, the liability lands on Vector.

Set that against how nearly every legal AI tool ships today. Output arrives with a disclaimer, the customer's lawyer checks the work, and the vendor's exposure stops at the license agreement. A decade of legal tech sold on speed, with accountability sitting exactly where it always sat.

Is this changing?
